Seeing Mount Rushmore is an awe-inspiring experience. The monument, carved into a granite mountain face in the Black Hills of South Dakota, features four American presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. The carving, headed by Gutzon Borglum, took 14 years to complete and was finished in 1941.
Today Mount Rushmore attracts some two million people annually. While you're here, the region offers a wealth of other things to do, including viewing Crazy Horse Memorial, a work in progress, as well as Rushmore Cave and Custer State Park, home to an abundance of wildlife including wild burros, buffalo, bighorn sheep, elk, deer and more.
